Silence fills your mind.
You hear nothing,
not even the whisper of the wind.
But yet,
you listen.
You let the non-existent sound
fill your soul.
You try to listen harder,
just to discover something else.
Hear a faint cry,
barely identifiable to your senses.
You want to awaken from the silent trance,
just to know what is out there.
Fight the soundless sound,
Hear again a faint cry.
No, it is no longer faint,
it drowns the silence,
it drowns your mind,
and it begins to feel real.
Hear cries and yells of despair.
You let these fill your soul.
You try to recognize who’s crying.
You realize it’s you.
The sadness and pain you bear within
is now impossible to keep.
You feel it break you and undo you.
You feel the pain raping you, killing you.
Again, you no longer hear anything,
Silence fills your mind,
just for an instant,
you listen to nothing.
You know silence is better than
letting your thoughts run wild
to what is painful to you,
to your body, your mind, and your soul.
